PSCinc is owned and operated by Kathryn Monaco since October 2001. Kathryn has worked in the industry for over twenty-five years on both the supplier side and tour operator side. She is regarded as an expert in the field and brings with her established relationships along with years of sales and marketing experience throughout periods of surging tourism as well as during periods of weak arrivals as a result of challenges faced daily due to the turbulent nature of the international travel industry.
Kathryn began her career at the Corporation for Professional Conferences, Inc., a family owned company, that operated international, professional group study tours for Doctor’s, Lawyer’s Nurses and other professions handling over 15,000 passenger’s annually. Eventually becoming the Vice President of Operations, Kathryn negotiated the airline and ground contracting as well as assisted with brochure production, product development, direct mail campaigns while managing a staff of up to twelve.
After 9-11 Kathryn opened her own company, Primary Sales Consulting, Inc. (PSCinc) and Protea Hotels was signed as her first client. Kathryn learned about Africa and grew her skill set in her over 18 years with Protea Hotels. After five years with Protea Hotels the business to North America grew substantially and the U.S.A. market went from the bottom fifteen to the top three consistently, year on year, occasionally surpassing the United Kingdom and Germany. In addition to FIT business, top producing international groups series, Grand Circle/Overland Adventures Travel, Gate 1, Collette Vacations and smarTours were secured for multiple hotels and multiple itineraries producing approximately 30,000 passenger’s combined annually. When Protea Hotels launched African Pride, the first five star brand for the group, Kathryn over saw the launch and worked with hotels and clients introducing the brand both to tour operators and retail outlets while assisting with developing new, luxury-orientated itineraries. Within two years African Pride properties were featured in the majority of the brochures for the key operator’s in North America and sales targets met and exceeded.
When Marriott acquired Protea Hotels this resulted in an opportunity to pivot the business structure towards luxury and boutique FIT versus the mid market group series and FIT’s. Newmark Hotels and Africa Albida Tourism were signed soon after as clients. With Newmark Hotels Kathryn had the opportunity to open East Africa and work on the launch of the re-furbed and refined Serengeti Sojourn mobile camp and Chuini Zanzibar Beach Lodge. With Africa Albida we worked to develop and launch the Victoria Falls Safari Club, the first luxury product for the brand. Within 3 years FIT sales grew from North America approximately 20% across the brand and the Gate 1 Group series, one of the largest in the U.S.A., producing approximately 10,000 travelers to Southern Africa, was secured for the main lodge and AMA Waterways small group, luxury series for the Club.
With a good selection of product in Southern and East Africa, it made sense to expanded the business to include Destination Management Company’s in each area. In Southern Africa, PSCinc contracted with Springbok Atlas Tours & Safaris, working with them over seventeen years and their sister company, Grosvenor Tours on the luxury side, for seven years. As demand for East Africa grew Kathryn later added ARP Safari’s (Pollmans Tours in Kenya and Ranger Safaris in Tanzania) and worked with them for more than ten years and was successful in growing their market share in North American exponentially.
Kathryn is past President of the Association for Promotion of Tourism to African (APTA); the largest not for profit organization in the United States dedicated solely to the promotion and education of tourism to Africa and remains active in the South Florida and Northeast Chapters. Under Kathryn’s leadership the membership grew from 900 to close to 1,200 during her two terms as President.
Kathryn is a member of the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) attending the annual conference for many years and regional meetings regularly. Currently she sits on the Associate Members Advisory committee, which advocates Supplier relations within the organization.
